Import your Sparkasse Kontoauszug and skip the manual entry
Home Budget Analytics automatically recognizes the Kontoauszug (account statement) PDF that Sparkasse banks issue in Germany. It doesn't matter which of the roughly 350 independently branded Sparkasse banks you use - Berliner Sparkasse, Sparkasse Köln-Bonn, or any other - they all run on the same core banking platform and produce the same statement layout, so the same automatic recognition applies to all of them.
Supported Sparkasse statement formats
| Format | Recognized automatically? |
|---|---|
| PDF (Kontoauszug) | Yes, automatically |
| CSV | Not automatically yet for Sparkasse - map the columns once if your online banking offers a CSV export, and save the mapping for next time |
| XLSX / XLS | Not automatically supported for Sparkasse - use the Kontoauszug PDF instead |
How to download your Kontoauszug from Sparkasse
Log in to your Sparkasse online banking (or the Sparkasse app) and open the account you want to analyze. Account statements usually live under "Postfach" (mailbox) or directly in the account's own transaction view, labeled "Kontoauszug" - download the PDF for the period you want.
Some Sparkasse banks issue a Kontoauszug automatically every month or quarter and deposit it straight into your online Postfach, rather than requiring you to generate one on demand - either way, the downloaded PDF is the same format Home Budget Analytics reads automatically.
What happens after you upload it
Home Budget Analytics reads every transaction from the Kontoauszug, including the merchant or counterparty detail that often spans a second indented line beneath the transaction itself (common in SEPA-style German statements), and checks it against transactions you've already imported so the same period can be re-uploaded without creating duplicates.
Each transaction is categorized using your own categorization rules - confirmed once for a new merchant and then applied automatically every time it recurs - and the amount is converted to your main budget currency at the real exchange rate if the statement isn't already in it. The result shows up on your dashboard immediately: spending by category, income, and progress toward your savings goals.
Common questions about Sparkasse imports
Does this work for my specific Sparkasse bank, or only a particular branch?
It works for any of Germany's roughly 350 independently branded Sparkasse banks. They're run by different local institutions, but all of them issue the same Kontoauszug layout on the same shared core banking platform, so the automatic recognition isn't tied to one branch or city.
Can I upload a CSV export from my Sparkasse account instead of the PDF?
Yes, if your online banking offers one. Sparkasse's CSV export isn't one of the formats recognized automatically yet, so the first time you'll map which column is the date, description, and amount - that takes a minute, and you can save the mapping to reuse it for later uploads of the same export type.
My Kontoauszug covers several pages - does that cause any issues?
No. A multi-page Kontoauszug is read as one continuous statement, including transactions whose merchant detail continues onto an indented line below them - there's nothing to split or re-upload per page.
