Import your Scotiabank statement and skip the manual entry

Home Budget Analytics automatically recognizes the PDF account statement Scotiabank issues for personal chequing and savings accounts in Canada - the kind with separate withdrawn and deposited columns. Upload it as you download it, with nothing to prepare or convert by hand.

Supported Scotiabank statement formats

FormatRecognized automatically?
PDF (account statement)Yes, automatically
CSVNot automatically yet for Scotiabank - map the columns once if your online banking offers a CSV export, and save the mapping for next time
XLSX / XLSNot automatically supported for Scotiabank - use the PDF statement instead

How to download your statement from Scotiabank

Log in to Scotiabank online banking or the Scotiabank mobile app and open the chequing or savings account you want to analyze. Look for "Statements" or "Statements & Documents" in the account menu, choose the month you need, and download it as a PDF.

If you have more than one account - a chequing account and a savings account, for example - you can download and upload each one's statement separately; Home Budget Analytics combines them into a single view and removes any transfer that would otherwise be counted on both sides.

What happens after you upload it

Home Budget Analytics reads every withdrawal and deposit from the statement, using the statement's own "Opening Balance" and "Closing Balance" dates to resolve the exact period - including a statement that happens to span a calendar year boundary, like late December into January. Already-imported transactions are matched and skipped, so re-uploading the same period never creates duplicates.

Each transaction is categorized using your own categorization rules - confirmed once for a new merchant and then applied automatically every time it recurs - and the amount is converted to your main budget currency at the real exchange rate if the account is in a different one. The result appears on your dashboard right away: spending by category, income, and progress toward your savings goals.

Common questions about Scotiabank imports

Does this work for both chequing and savings accounts?

Yes - any personal Scotiabank account statement with the standard withdrawn/deposited column layout is recognized the same way, whether it's a chequing account, a savings account, or both.

Can I upload a CSV export from Scotiabank instead of the PDF?

Yes, if your online banking offers one. Scotiabank's CSV export isn't one of the formats recognized automatically yet, so the first time you'll map which column is the date, description, and amount - that takes a minute, and you can save the mapping to reuse it for later uploads of the same export type.

What happens if my statement period crosses into a new year?

It's handled correctly. The statement's own opening and closing dates are used to resolve which year each transaction's date actually falls in, so a period like December 28 to January 27 is read without any dates landing in the wrong year.
