A budget app for couples that shares only what each person chooses

Most couples don't need one joint login and a joint spreadsheet. They need a shared picture: what the household spent this month, on what, and who paid for it - without either person handing over their whole financial life. Home Budget Analytics does this with a household view that is built only from the accounts each person decides to share.

How household sharing works

Every person keeps their own account, their own statements and their own categories. The household is a thin layer on top.

  1. 1

    One person starts the household

Open Household in the app and create it, optionally with a name. You become the owner and can bring up to four people in total, yourself included.

  2. 2

    Send an invite link

The app creates a link that works once and expires after 7 days. We don't email it for you: you send it to your partner yourself. They sign in or create their own account and accept.

  3. 3

Each person ticks the accounts to share

Nothing is shared by default. Each person ticks the bank accounts whose transactions the household may see, and can separately choose to share the entries they add by hand.

  4. 4

    Look at the combined month

The Household page shows what was spent and received together, a split by person, the biggest categories and the shared transactions with the name of who made them.

What the household sees - and what it doesn't

The boundaries are deliberately simple:

  • Only accounts a person ticked as shared appear in the household view. Unticked accounts stay completely private.
  • The view is read-only. Your partner can see a shared transaction but cannot edit, recategorize or delete it.
  • Transfers between a person's own accounts are never counted as spending or income, so moving money to savings doesn't inflate the totals.
  • Un-sharing an account, leaving the household, or being removed by the owner ends access immediately. Nothing is copied into anyone else's account, so there is nothing left behind.

Different banks and different currencies are fine

Partners rarely bank in the same place. Each person imports their own statements, in whatever format their bank offers, and the household view combines the shared accounts. If one of you earns or spends in a different currency, those transactions are converted into the household currency at the exchange rate for the day of each transaction.

If a rate can't be found for a transaction, it is left out of the totals and the page tells you how many were skipped, rather than guessing.

What this is, and what it isn't

IncludedNot included
Combined spending and income for the shared accounts, month by monthSplitting bills or tracking who owes whom
A split by person and by categoryA joint household budget or shared savings goal - budgets and goals stay personal to each account
A shared transaction list showing who made each paymentEditing each other's transactions
Invite by link, up to four people, leave any timeA shared login or a single combined account

Each person has their own account

Sharing doesn't change billing. Each person has their own 14-day free trial (no card required) and then their own subscription of US$6.99 per month or US$59.99 per year. That also keeps the arrangement clean: if one of you stops using the app, your own data and your own account stay exactly as they were.

Common questions

Can my partner see all my accounts?

No. They see only the accounts you tick as shared, and only as a read-only view. You can change the selection at any time and it takes effect immediately.

Does my partner need to pay too?

Each person uses their own account, so each person has their own free trial and, afterwards, their own subscription. There is no shared plan.

What happens to my data if we split up?

Leave the household and the shared view ends for both of you straight away. Your transactions never moved into anyone else's account, so there is nothing to retrieve or delete.

Can we split expenses and track who owes what?

Not yet. The household view shows what was spent together and who made each payment, but it doesn't calculate settlements.
